Manufacturing Lab

Pneumatic & Electro-Pneumatic Systems Laboratory — Designing, simulating, and constructing fluid power circuits using FluidSIM and hands-on apparatus.

Lab Report

Report Submission Guidelines

Ensure your report adheres to the following structure and formatting requirements. Follow the prescribed front cover template exactly as provided in the manual.

01

Four FluidSIM Circuits

Design and present four distinct pneumatic or electro-pneumatic circuits using the FluidSIM Festo software. Each circuit must be accompanied by a clear written explanation covering the purpose of the circuit, component functions, and the operating sequence. The application context is a Paint Brush Vibrator system — devise your own circuit designs accordingly.

02

One Hands-On Circuit

Construct one physical pneumatic circuit on the laboratory apparatus. Document the setup with photographs or diagrams and provide a thorough explanation of the circuit's operation, including the component layout, connections, and the observed output behaviour.

03

Peer Assessment

Attach the completed peer assessment form as part of your report submission. This evaluates each team member's contribution and is a mandatory component of the lab report grading.

04

FluidSIM Simulation Files

Attach all FluidSIM project files (.ct) used in your report. The files must be runnable in the FluidSIM Festo environment so the assessor can verify and simulate each circuit independently. Two key files — the Compactor and Paint Brush solutions — will be provided separately.

Key Reminders

Circuit Design Context: Paint Brush Vibrator
All four FluidSIM circuits must be designed within the context of a Paint Brush Vibrator application. You are expected to independently conceptualise and design appropriate circuits. Consider different control methods — single-acting, double-acting, sequential, and timed operations — to demonstrate a breadth of understanding.
Formatting & Front Cover
Strictly follow the prescribed formatting and front cover template as outlined in the lab manual. Non-compliance with the formatting guidelines may result in mark deductions. Ensure proper labelling, numbering, and professional presentation throughout.
File Submissions
Two additional files — the Compactor and Paint Brush FluidSIM solutions — will be distributed separately. Please submit these alongside your report. Ensure all .ct files are included and runnable.
